A dove clutching a rose is painted by a girl on the wall of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in celebration of Peace Day 2009. Afghanistan is known for its multi-coloured roses and immaculate-white doves which have come to mean Peace to Afghans. Organized by the Civil Society Organization, some 15 students from different schools joined the painting event which turned the wall into a giant mural depicting Peace. The United Nations in Afghanistan and other agencies have called for a ceasefire to be observed on 21 September, the International Day of Peace. Photo: Mariam Alimi (UNAMA).
